Man Charged With Injuring Seven In Hit And Run

25-Year-Old Passaic Man Charged With Injuring Seven, 3 Seriously In Friday Night Weehawken Hit & Run

WEEHAWKEN, NJ.- A 25-year-old Passaic, New Jersey man has been charged in connection with a late Friday night hit-and-run collision in Weehawken, New Jersey, that left 2 pedestrians, a driver of a car hospitalized with serious injuries, and another 4 with minor injuries.


     According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, on Friday, July 5, 2024, shortly before 10:00 p.m., members of the Weehawken Police Department responded to the area of Avenue at Port Imperial and Port Imperial Boulevard following receiving a report of a hit-and-run collision with serious injuries.



     Upon arrival, Police Officers located a Honda CRV, that had been struck by a Ford F350 pickup truck. Following striking the Honda, the driver of the Ford pickup fled the scene, striking two pedestrians, a 78-year-old North Bergen, New Jersey woman and a 70-year-old woman from Florida.


     After striking the two women, the driver of the pickup jumped out of the vehicle and fled the area on foot. The two pedestrians and a passenger in the Honda, an 80-year-old North Bergen, New Jersey woman sustained serious injuries in the collision and were immediately transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment. Four other people in the Honda sustained minor injuries.


     During the initial investigation, members of the Weehawken Police Department were able to identify the driver of the Ford as Luis Tubac-Socoy, 25, of Passaic, New Jersey. Tubac-Socoy was taken into custody a short time later by Weehawken Police Officers.


     Accordingly, Tubac-Socoy was formally charged with three counts of Assault by Auto; two counts of Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury; and one count of Aggravated Assault. Tubac-Socoy was also issued multiple motor vehicle summonses. The custody status of Tubac-Socoy is unknown at this time.


     The collision remains under active investigation by Detectives of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Weehawken Police Department.
