33-Year-Old Lodi Man Charged In Sunday's Hit & Run In Little Ferry That Seriously Injured 2 People

LITTLE FERRY, NJ.- Yesterday, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella reported that following an investigation, a 33-year-old Lodi, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and charged in connection with an early Sunday morning car crash that left two people hospitalized with serious injuries.
As first reported, on Sunday, July 14, 2024, during the early morning hours, members of the Little Ferry Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a motor vehicle crash with serious injuries at the intersection of Route 46 and Bergen Turnpike in Little Ferry.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a vehicle that had been struck in the rear by a vehicle that fled the scene. The occupants of the vehicle sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital, where they were treated.
During the initial investigation, the responding Police Officer requested that the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and a joint investigation was launched, and a search for the fleeing vehicle commenced. Detectives quickly determined that a 2019 Dodge pickup truck being driven by Miguel A. Delacruz Romero, 33, of Lodi, New Jersey, was traveling east on Route 46 when it struck the rear of a 2022 Toyota sedan, seriously injuring the two occupants.
On Monday, July 15, 2024, Detectives tracked the vehicle involved based on evidence recovered at the scene, locating the pickup truck and identifying Delacruz Romero as the driver.
Accordingly, on Monday, July 15, 2024, Delacruz Romero was taken into custody in Little Ferry and formally charged with third-degree Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury and was issued multiple motor vehicle summonses. After being processed on the charge, Delacruz Romero was transported to the Bergen County Jail pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
