Woman Stabbed To Death Yesterday Afternoon While Her Son Was Sleeping In His Bedroom

EDISON, NJ.- A 37-year-old Edison, New Jersey man was taken into custody and charged in connection with Sunday's afternoon stabbing death of a 37-year-old Edison woman inside her home while her son was sleeping in his room.
According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, on Sunday, July 21, 2024, shortly after 4:30 p.m., members of the Edison Township Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a stabbing at a Horizon Drive residence in the Township.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found Lizbeth Benitez-Ramirez, 37, of Edison, deceased from multiple stab wounds inside her home. Ms Benitez-Ramirez was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The initial investigation by Detective Clint Hetzell of the Edison Township Police Department and Detective Javier Morillo of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office determined that Ms. Benitez-Ramirez's son was asleep in his bedroom when he woke up later in the afternoon, at which time he found his mother dead from multiple stab wounds.
Detectives determined that Joan Franklin Polanco, 37, of Edison, New Jersey, was seen entering the bedroom with a knife and leaving the residence shortly after the stabbing.
Within hours of the stabbing death, Polanco was located and taken into custody by members of the New York City Police Department, where he is being detained on the charges of first-degree Murder; third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
