Bangladesh Police Have Been Given 'Shoot-On-Sight' Orders For Those Who Violate Nationwide Curfew

DHAKA, BD.- Authorities in Bangladesh have imposed a nationwide curfew, confining citizens to their homes and cutting off internet access after rioting in the Capital City of Dhaka turned violent, leaving dozens of people dead amid deadly clashes between protesters and police.
The days of violence have been sparked by students' calls for the government to end a rule reserving that a third of public jobs be rewarded to the families of veterans of the country's independence war in 1971.

Students began the protest just under two weeks ago, but as the government began to crack down, the protests turned violent, causing the government to issue a 'shoot-on-sight' order across Bangladesh, prompting military forces to patrol parts of the capital city as scores were killed and hundreds injured.
In recent years protesters have considered the allocation quota of civil service jobs to be discriminatory.
The prime minister's office announced the curfew following an attack on the country's Narsingdi Prison, which led to hundreds of inmates being released into the streets.
Government Press Secretary Naeemul Islam Khan said the military deployment was necessary in order to restore order to the streets.
