MAYS LANDING, NJ.- Atlantic County Prosecutor Willam E. Reynolds reported that on Monday, July 15, 2024, William Jenkins, 28, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court and entered guilty pleas in connection with the death of a 44-year-old man who succumbed to a fatal overdose in July 2023.

Jenkins pleaded guilty to first-degree Strict Liability for Causing a Drug-Induced Death; third-degree Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance; and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office will recommend that Jenkins be sentenced to 11 years in New Jersey State Prison, subject to the No Early Release Act. This act requires Jenkins to serve 85% of his custodial term before becoming eligible for parole. Upon release from State Prison, Jenkins must serve 5 years of intense parole supervision.

The plea agreement stems from an investigation that unfolded on July 5, 2023, when Detectives found a 44-year-old man, identified only as B.F., unresponsive with a syringe in his arm in a parked car in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Detectives also found nine folds inside the vehicle, which was tested and determined to contain fentanyl. A subsequent autopsy determined that B.F. had overdosed and died from fentanyl intoxication.

A subsequent investigation uncovered that Jenkins had sold the fentanyl to B.F., ultimately causing his death.

Then, on July 13, 2023, Investigators completed an undercover purchase of fentanyl from Jenkins in Atlantic City. During the purchase, Jenkins provided the undercover Detective with a can of Narcan while bragging about how strong the fentanyl he was selling. Jenkins then admitted to the undercover Detective that he had recently sold the fentanyl to B.F. that killed him.

After the undercover purchase was completed, Jenkins was immediately taken into custody. During the arrest, Detectives located a long straight-blade knife the size of a dagger.

Jenkins has remained incarcerated in the Atlantic County Justice Facility since his arrest. He is scheduled to be sentenced in September 2024.
