One Killed, One Injured In Tuesday Afternoon Shooting In Trenton, New Jersey

TRENTON, NJ.- The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a shooting that occurred late Tuesday afternoon in New Jersey's Capital City, that has claimed the life of a Trenton, New Jersey man and injured another man.
According to Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri, on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, shortly after 5:00 p.m., members of the Trenton Police Department responded to a ShotSpotter Activation in the area of Stuyvesant and Hoffman Avenues in the City of Trenton.
Upon arrival, Police Officers were able to locate evidence of a shooting but were unable to locate any victims. While on scene Police Officers were notified that two male gunshot victims had arrived at Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment. One of the men was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was subsequently released.
The second man, Jonathan Applegate, of Trenton, New Jersey, sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Applegate succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time.
