Paterson Man Charged In Shooting That Killed One & Injured Two

19-Year-Old Paterson Man Was Apprehended In Pennsylvania For The October 23, 2023, Triple Shooting

PATERSON, NJ.- A 19-year-old Paterson, New Jersey man has been apprehended in Pennsylvania in connection with an October 3, 2023, triple shooting in Paterson, New Jersey that claimed the life of a 33-year-old Riverdale, New Jersey man, and injured another two men.


     According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, Brayan Caraballo, 19, of Paterson, New Jersey has been charged with first-degree Murder; first-degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder; first-degree Attempted Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Caraballo was taken into custody in Pennsylvania and is being held pending extradition to New Jersey.



     On October 3, 2023, at approximately 3:47 p.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a shooting with multiple victims, in the area of Broadway and Rosa Parks Boulevard in the City of Paterson.


     Upon arrival, Police Officers located three victims, the first victim, Jerrell Wright, 23, of Riverdale, New Jersey was transported to Saint Joseph's University Medical Center where he succumbed to a gunshot wound to his chest and was pronounced deceased. The two other victims, Shaheem Clark, 19, of Elmwood Park, New Jersey, and Charles Obee, 57, of Paterson, New Jersey were both transported to Saint Joseph's University Medical Center where they were treated and released.


     The subsequent investigation by Detectives of the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office and the Paterson Police Department resulted in Caraballo being identified as one of the individuals involved in the triple shooting. A 16-year-old boy was previously arrested for his involvement in the shooting and is currently being detained pending future court proceedings in Passaic County Superior Court.


     The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office will file a pretrial detention motion to have Caraballo detained pending trial.


"The rules of the court requires us to include a statement, that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt."
