Man, Juvenile Charged In 2023 Asbury Park Triple Shooting

ASBURY PARK, NJ.- On Wednesday, a 19-year-old Long Branch, New Jersey man was taken into custody, and a juvenile already in custody were both charged in connection with last summer's Asbury Park targeted triple shooting that claimed the life of a 21-year-old Asbury Park man and left another two men suffering from gunshot wounds.


     According to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago, Michael Sally, 19, of Long Branch, New Jersey has been formally charged with first-degree Murder; first-degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder; first-degree Attempted Murder; first-degree Gang Criminality; two counts of second-degree Aggravated Assault; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and third-degree Receiving Stolen Property.



     The juvenile whose identity is being withheld because of his, was charged as a Juvenile Delinquent with the same charges as Sally.


     According to the Prosecutor's Office, on Monday, July 3, 2023, at around 10:30 p.m., members of the Asbury Park Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a shooting at the Asbury Park Garden Apartment Complex located on Atlantic Avenue in Asbury Park.


     Upon arrival, Police Officers found three victims, all men, suffering from gunshot wounds. All three men were immediately transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where two of the men were treated and released. The third man, identified as Lativity Lyons, 21, of Asbury Park, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later. A fourth victim, who was the intended target of the shooting escaped injury.


     An extensive investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Bureau and the Asbury Park Police Department were able to identify Sally and the juvenile as suspects and the individuals responsible for the shooting and the death of Mr. Lyons.


     On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, Sally was located and taken into custody in Long Branch, New Jersey, by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, the Asbury Park Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals Service New York/ New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force. The juvenile is currently being detained at a juvenile detention center on unrelated charges.
