Man Convicted In Camden Fatal Shooting

25-Year-Old Burlington City Man Convicted For The November 2021 Murder Of A Camden Man

CAMDEN, NJ.- Last Thursday, a jury sitting in Camden County, New Jersey convicted a 25-year-old Burlington County man for fatally gunning down a 29-year-old Camden, New Jersey man back in November of 2021, in Camden, New Jersey.


     According to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, on Thursday, June 6, 2024, following a trial, the jury found Lesure Funari, 25, of Burlington City, New Jersey, guilty on the charges of first-degree Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, in the shooting death of Takwail Bailey, 29, of Camden, New Jersey.



     The verdict stems from an investigation that began on November 28, 2021, when at approximately 10:32 p.m., members of the Camden County Police Department responded to a multi-shot ShotSpotter Activation located on the 1000 Block of Lois Avenue in Camden.


     Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man, later identified as Takwail Bailey, lying in the parking lot of an apartment building having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Mr. Bailey was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased shortly after the shooting.


     During the investigation, Detectives obtained video surveillance footage that captured the shooting. The video showed Funari exiting a Black Ford F-150 pick-up truck parked across the street from the apartment building. Funari was then seen approaching Mr. Bailey and shooting him multiple times. Detectives were able to track the truck on video to and from the crime scene.


     Based on the video surveillance footage and evidence, Detectives were able to identify Funari as the shooter and the individual responsible for the death of Mr. Bailey.


     On January 7, 2022, Funari was apprehended at Camden residence by members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/ New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force. Funari has remained incarcerated at the Camden County Correctional Facility since the day of his apprehension.


     Sentencing in the matter has been scheduled for August 23, 2024, in Camden County Superior Court at which time Funari will face the potential sentence of life in New Jersey State Prison.
