59-Year-Old Jackson Township Apartment Complex Maintenance Man Sentenced For Burglary & Theft Offenses

JACKSON, TOWNSHIP, NJ.- Last Friday, a 59-year-old Jackson Township, New Jersey man and former employee of a Jackson Township apartment complex was sentenced to 364 days in the Ocean County Jail as a condition of a three-year probationary term in connection with the December 2021, burglary and theft of an apartment.
According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, on December 21, 2021, members of the Jackson Township Police Department responded to a residence on Chatham Court West in the Gardens at Jackson Twenty-One apartment complex following receiving a report of a theft.
Upon arrival, Police Officers learned that the tenants of the residence, after returning home from work found that $4500 in cash and an Apple watch were missing.
A subsequent investigation by Detectives of the Jackson Township Police Department determined that Troy Jones, 59, of Jackson Township, New Jersey, who was employed as an apartment complex maintenance worker used the master key issued to him to enter the apartment, and stole the cash and watch.
On January 12, 2022, Jones was formally charged with burglary and theft, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On January 13, 2022, after learning of the warrant, Jones surrendered himself to Jackson Township Police, with his attorney. After being processed on the charges Jones was lodged in the Ocean County Jail, and following a hearing in court, Jones was released pending trial.
On March 20, 2024, following a two-week trial in Ocean County Superior Court, a jury found Jones Guilty of both charges. On Friday, May 31, 2024, Jones was sentenced to 364 days in the county jail as a condition of a 3-year probationary term.
