67-Year-Old Florida Man Charged After Injuring Crashing Into A Motorcycle With Driving Drunk

MAHWAH, NJ.- Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella reported, that a 67-year-old Delray Beach, Florida man was taken into custody and charged in connection with causing a motor vehicle crash while driving under the influence and leaving the driver of a motorcycle seriously injured on Sunday in Mahwah, New Jersey.
According to authorities, on Sunday, June 2, 2024, members of the Mahwah Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a motor vehicle crash on East Crescent Lane involving a car and a motorcycle.
An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and the Mahwah Police Department determined that a 2022 Volkswagen operated by Terence J.Cotter, 67, of Delray Beach, Florida was traveling south on East Crescent Lane and crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a motorcycle. As a result of the crash, the operator of the motorcycle was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
During the initial investigation responding Police Officers Cotter of being under the influence of alcohol. Further investigation determined that Cotter was operating his 2022 Volkswagen while being under the influence and was responsible for the collision.
Following the investigation, on Sunday, June 2, 2024, Cotter was arrested and charged with third-degree Assault by Auto and was issued multiple motor vehicle summonses including Driving While Intoxicated.
Following being charged Cotter was transported to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
