MAYS LANDING, NJ.- Today, Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds reported, that on Friday, May 3, 2024, Tyrell Gist, 27, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court and was sentenced to a term of 13 years in New Jersey State Prison following pleading guilty to two counts of first-degree Strict Liability for a Drug-Induced Death in connection with selling Fentanyl-Lasced Heroin that killed two tourists at the Bally's Hotel and Casino back in March of 2020.

The sentence will be subject to the No Early Release Act which will require Gist to serve 85 percent of his custodial term before becoming eligible for parole. Upon his release from prison, Gist will be on parole supervision for a period of 5 years.

The guilty plea and the sentence stem from an investigation that began on March 8, 2020, when Bally's Hotel and Casino employees discovered two unresponsive men, later identified as Scott Jordan, 42, and Simon Gamble, 39, both tourists from the United Kingdom inside their room. Hotel employees immediately notified authorities and upon arrival, authorities pronounced both men deceased.

Police Officers during the initial investigation found 10 ripped white wax baggies and a line of a white powdery substance on a table. Following an ensuing investigation, the New Jersey State Police Laboratory determined the wax baggies contained heroin, fentanyl, and 4-ANNP. The Regional Medical Examiner's Office determined the cause of death to be acute toxic effects of fentanyl and ethanol.

Further investigation determined that Mr. Gamble and Mr. Jordan were citizens of the United Kingdom working in New York City, who spent the night in Atlantic City and planned to return to New York on March 8, 2020. Following their deaths, Bally's surveillance cameras were able to help Detectives identify Grist as the individual who sold them the drugs.

Additionally, Gist pleaded guilty and was sentenced to narcotics offenses and the sentences for these offenses will be served concurrently with his other State Prison Sentences.
