51-Year-Old Newark Man Convicted Of Hitting A Man In The Head & Robbing Him Of $20,000 At Atlantic City Casino

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ.- Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds reported, on Monday, May 20, 2024, a jury sitting in Atlantic County, New Jersey, found Robert Reed, 51, of Newark, New Jersey guilty on the charges of second-degree Robbery; third-degree Aggravated Assault; third-degree Theft by Unlawful Taking; and a third-degree and fourth-degree Weapons offenses.
According to documents in the case, The conviction stems from an incident that unfolded on March 3, 2023, the victim had traveled down to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino to gamble. Reed was present at the table when the victim won $20,000.00 on a hand of poker. Reed then befriended the victim.
The following morning on March 4, 2023, the victim was checking out of his hotel and was met again by Reed. During a brief conversation, Reed told the victim that he had missed his bus and asked the victim for a ride to the bus station. The victim agreed to drive him. While walking to the victim's car in the parking garage, Reed struck the victim in the head with a glass wine bottle and robbed him of his cash winnings and other personal belongings.
The victim received several head lacerations due to being struck by the bottle. Reed then fled the scene on foot, but the Hard Rock security and surveillance were able to identify Reed by his player's card information. Reed was taken into custody and formally charged shortly after the robbery.
Reed has been scheduled for sentencing before the Honorable Dorothy Garrabrant, J.S.C. on July 18, 2024, at which time Reed will face a New Jersey State Prison Term of up to 10 years.
