76-Year-Old Kearny Man Remains In Critical Condition After Being Struck In Hit & Run Thursday Morning

KEARNY, NJ.- A 76-year-old Kearny, New Jersey man remains hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a motor vehicle Thursday morning while crossing an intersection, after striking the man the vehicle fled the area leaving the man injured in the roadway.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, on Thursday, May 30, 2024, shortly after 7:00 a.m., members of the Kearny Police Department responded to the intersection of Kearny and Colombia Avenues in Kearny, following receiving a 911 Emergency Call reporting a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle that the fled the scene.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, identified as a 76-year-old Kearny, New Jersey resident, in the roadway suffering from serious injuries. The man was immediately transported to University Hospital in Newark, where he remains in critical condition.
During the initial investigation, Police Officers determined that while crossing the intersection he was struck by a motor vehicle that fled the scene. Authorities have located the vehicle suspected of striking the man.
Detectives of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Kearny Police Department are actively investigating this incident. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed this collision is asked to contact the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office at (201) 915-1345.
