49-Year-Old Englewood Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting A Child

ENGLEWOOD, NJ.- On Wednesday, a 49-year-old Englewood, New Jersey man was taken into custody and charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a preteen that occurred in the past.

     According to Bergen County Prosecutor Marck Musella, on Friday, April 19, 2024, the Englewood Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit following receiving a report regarding the past sexual assault of a juvenile.

     During a subsequent investigation, Detectives of the Bergen County Special Victims Unit interviewed witnesses including the victim, and determined that Abel Garcia, 49, of Englewood, New Jersey sexually assaulted a child who was under the age of 13 at the time of the assault in Englewood, New Jersey.

     Following the investigation, on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, Detectives of the Bergen County Special Victims Unit arrested Mr. Garcia in Englewood, New Jersey, and formally charged him with two counts of second-degree Sexual Assault; and second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

     Following being processed on the charges, Garcia was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.

"The rules of the court requires us to include a statement, that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt."
