23-Year-Old East Orange Man Has Been Charged In New Year's Day Paterson Shooting

PATERSON, NJ.- A 23-year-old East Orange, New Jersey man was taken into custody yesterday by U.S. Marshals and New Jersey State Trooper and charged in connection with a New Year's Day Paterson shooting that injured a 25-year-old Prospect Park, New Jersey woman.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, on Monday, January 1, 2024, just minutes before 5:00 a.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to Saint Joseph's University Medical Center in The City of Paterson to meet with a female shooting victim.
Upon arrival, Police Officers interviewed a 25-year-old Prospect Park, New Jersey woman who had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
An investigation by Detectives of the Paterson Police Department's Shooting Investigation Unit and the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office were able to identify Eudys T. Santios-Toribio as a suspect and the individual responsible for the shooting of the woman in the area of Market and East 33rd Streets in the City of Paterson on January 1, 2024.
Accordingly, Santios-Toribio was charged with Second Degree Aggravated Assault; Third Degree Aggravated Assault; Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
On Thursday, April 18, 2024, Santios-Toribio was apprehended by the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit and the United States Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Following being processed on the charges Santios-Toribio was remanded to the Passaic County Jail pending future court proceedings in Passaic County Superior Court. the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has filed a Pretrial Detention Motion to have Santios-Toribio detained pending trial.
"The rules of the court require us to include a statement, that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt."
