HOBOKEN, NJ.- Today, a 33-year-old North Bergen, New Jersey man was apprehended in Massachusettes in connection with the senseless fatal shooting of Damon Murry, 21, a former Hoboken High School Football Star and Rutgers University Student.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, Albert Morales, 33, of North Bergen, New Jersey has been formally charged with first-degree Murder; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

Morales was arrested in Chicopee, Massachusettes on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, by members of the Massachusettes State Police. Morales will remain in custody pending extradition to New Jersey.

The charges stem from an investigation that began on Sunday, April 28, 2024, when shortly after 11:30 p.m., members of the Hoboken Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting multiple shots fired in the area of 320 Marshall Drive in the City of Hoboken.

Upon arrival, Police Officers located evidence of a shooting crime scene outside the building. While on scene Police Officers received a report that a man, identified as Damon Murray, 21, of Hoboken, New Jersey had been transported by a private vehicle to Jersey City Medical Center, where he sadly succumbed to a gunshot wound to his abdomen and was pronounced deceased just minutes after 12:00 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2024.

A swift-moving investigation by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit and the Hoboken Police Department, within hours after the shooting was able to identify Morales as the suspect and the individual responsible for the death of Mr. Murray. Detectives were able to track Morales who fled the area after the shooting to Massachusettes, where he was taken into custody earlier today.

"The rules of the court requires us to include a statement, that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt."
