Sayreville Man Charged With Aggravated Arson In Fatal Fire

SAYREVILLE MAN CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ARSON AFTER POLICE FIND HIM BURNED AND HIS SON DEAD

     "Middlesex County Authorities Are Continuing The Investigation Into A Domestic Dispute That Led A Man To Ignite Himself & His 9-Year-Old Son On Fire."

SAYREVILLE, NJ.- Middlesex County Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding what would cause a 43-Year-Old Sayreville man to set himself and his 9-Year-Old Son on Fire, leaving his Son Dead and the man Hospitalized Following an Apparent Domestic Dispute Late Last Night.


     According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 10:45 p.m., Members of The Sayreville Police responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a Fire near The Sayreville High School. While responding to The Call, The Sayreville Police Department received an additional call Reporting an Apparent Domestic Dispute. Additional Police Officers responded to a Sayreville residence located on Eisenhower Drive.


     Upon arrival, Police Officers found a Woman, who told Police Officers that a Domestic Dispute had occurred between her and her Husband. The Woman said that her Husband, Manuel Rivera, 43, of Sayreville, New Jersey left their home with their 9-Year-Old Son.


      Police Officers who responded to the initial call reporting the Fire on Washington Road near The Sayreville High School, Found Mr. Rivera Alive, but with Burns to his Body and a Self-Inflicted Wound. Next to Mr. Rivera, a Motor Vehicle was located that had been Doused with Gasoline and was still on Fire. Rivera was immediately transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where he is being treated.


      During the initial investigation, First Responders and Police Officers found the Body of a Deceased Child inside the Vehicle. Rivera has been Charged at this time with Second Degree Aggravated Arson. Additional Charges are Pending the Autopsy Report from The Middlesex County Medical Examiner.
