Paterson Man Charged For The January Shooting Of Two Men In Paterson

26-YEAR-OLD PATERSON MAN SURRENDERED TO AUTHORITIES ON TUESDAY IN SHOOTING OF TWO MEN

     "Miguel de la Cruz Has Been Charged In Connection With The January 29, 2024, Shooting That Injured 2 Paterson, New Jersey Men."

PATERSON, NJ.- Following an Investigation, on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, a 26-Year-Old Paterson, New Jersey man Surrendered himself to Detectives of The Paterson Police Department in connection with The January 29, 2024, Early Morning Shooting that left Two Paterson Men Hospitalized from Gunshot Wounds, according to Police Officials.


     According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, on Monday, January 29, 2024, at 12:45 a.m., Members of The Paterson Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call Reporting a Shooting in the area of East Main and Hillman Streets in The City of Paterson.


     Upon arrival, Police Officers located an 18-Year-Old Paterson, New Jersey Man, and a 30-Year-Old Paterson, New Jersey Man, both suffering from Non-Life Threatening Gunshot Wounds. Both men were immediately transported to Saint Joseph's University Medical Center for treatment.



     An ensuing investigation by Members of The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office and Detectives of The Paterson Police Department's Shooting Investigation Unit were able to identify Miguel de la Cruz, 26, of Paterson, New Jersey, as the Suspect and the Individual Responsible for the Shooting of The Two Men, and a Warrant was Issued for his Arrest.


     After learning of The Arrest Warrant, Mr. de la Cruz Surrendered to Detectives and was Formally Charged with First Degree Attempted Murder; Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; Second Degree Aggravated Assault; and Third Degree Aggravated Assault.


     Mr. de la Cruz was Processed on The Charges and was Remanded to The Passaic County Jail, pending a First Appearance in Passaic County Superior Court. The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has Filed a Pretrial Detention Motion to have Mr. de la Cruz Detained pending Trial, which will be heard by The Court on Monday, March 4, 2024.


     If Convicted of The Charges Filed against him, Mr. de la Cruz will be Facing a Potential New Jersey State Prison Term of Twenty Years or more.
