39-YEAR-OLD MARLBORO RESIDENT INDICTED ON CHARGES FOR THE JANUARY 1, 2024 BEATING DEATH

FREEHOLD, NJ.- Today, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago reported, that a Grand Jury sitting in Monmouth County, New Jersey has returned an Indictment Charging a 39-Year-Old Marlboro Township man in connection with The Death of his 64-Year-Old Roommate that occurred inside their home during the Early Morning Hours of January 1, 2024.
The Grand Jury Returned the Indictment, Charging Carl A. Richards, 39, with One Count of First Degree Murder; and Three Counts of Second Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The Child Endangerment Charges stem from Three Minor Children being present in The Home when the Vicious Attack took place.
According to Authorities, on Monday, January 1, 2024, shortly after 12:30 a.m., Members of The Marlboro Township Police Department responded to a Home on Texas Road in The Morganville Section of Marlboro Township, after receiving a 911 Emergency Call requesting immediate Medical Attention for a man who had been Assaulted in The Home.
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man, identified as George L. Mott, 64, Unresponsive with Severe Trauma to his Head, Face, and Neck. Mr. Mott was immediately transported to Old Bridge Medical Center where he succumbed to his Injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly before 1:30 a.m.
An investigation by The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Bureau and The Marlboro Township Police Department revealed that following a Verbal Altercation, Carl A. Richards Repeatedly Physically Assaulted Mr. Mott, which led to his Death. Detectives further learned that Mr. Richards and Mr. Mott resided together in The Texas Road Residence.
Following the investigation, Mr. Richards was Taken into Custody and Formally Charged. After being Processed on The Charges, Mr. Richards was Lodged in The Monmouth County Correctional Institution where he Remains Pending Trial.
