Rockaway Teacher Charged With Sex Crimes On Second Student

ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, NJ.- A 55-Year-Old Rockaway Township, New Jersey man who was First Charged late last month was Taken into Custody and Charged in connection with The Sexual Assault of a Second Teen while employed as a School Teacher for a Morris County School District.


     According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, as First Reported on February 23, 2024, The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit was contacted by The Hopatcong Police Department regarding The Alleged Sexual Conduct between a Teacher and a Student in Westwood, New Jersey.



     An investigation by Members of The Bergen County Special Victims Unit determined that Kurt Zimmermann, 55, of Rockaway Township, New Jersey, while previously employed by The Westwood Regional School District as The Director of Bands, had in the past, Engaged in Sexual Conduct with a Student between the Ages of 13 and 17 on more than One Occasion. The Sexual Conduct that had occurred in the past had taken place at The Westwood Regional Middle School in Westwood, New Jersey, and The Westwood Regional High School in Washington Township, New Jersey.


     The ongoing investigation revealed a Second Teen Victim. Detectives determined that Zimmermann, while employed as a Teacher at The Morris Hills Regional District in Rockaway Township, New Jersey, engaged in Sexual Conduct with a Student who was at least 16 Years of Age but was Under 18 Years of Age. 


     Accordingly, on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, Zimmermann was Taken into Custody in Rockaway, New Jersey, and Formally Charged with Three Counts of Second Degree Sexual Assault. Zimmermann was Processed on The Charges and was Remanded to The Bergen County Jail pending Future Court Proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court.
