Bergenfield Man Charged In Thursday's Fatal Hit And Run

94-YEAR-OLD BERGENFIELD MAN CHARGED FATALLY HITTING A 54-YEAR-OLD SCHOOL TEACHER

     "Ernest F. Hofmann Has Been Charged In Connection With Fatally Striking A 54-Year-Old Woman As She Was Crossing At An Intersection."

DUMONT, NJ.- A Bergen County Community is mourning the loss of a Beloved and Dedicated Englewood Elementary School Teacher who Tragically Lost her Life after being Struck and Killed while crossing an Intersection in Dumont, New Jersey, late Thursday Afternoon. 



     According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Thursday, March 14, 2024, shortly before 5:30 p.m., Members of The Dumont Police Department responded to a Report of a Hit-and-Run Crash involving a Pedestrian at the Intersection of Washington and Madison Avenues in Dumont. Upon arrival, Police Officers learned that Elizabeth Feliciano-Rosa, 54, of Dumont, was crossing the Intersection when she was Struck by a Pickup Truck that Fled the Scene. 


     Ms. Feliciano-Rosa was immediately transported to Hackensack University Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.


     A Swift-Moving Investigation by The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and The Dumont Police Department confirmed that while Ms. Feliciano-Rosa was Crossing the Intersection she was Struck by a 2002 Ford F-150 Pickup Truck being operated by Ernest F. Hofmann, 94, of Bergenfield, New Jersey. Mr. Hofmann Fled the Scene before Police Officers arrived.


     Accordingly, Mr. Hofmann was Located and Taken into Custody. Hofmann has been Formally Charged with Second Degree Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting in Death; and Fourth Degree Obstruction of the Administration of Law. Hofmann was also issued Several Motor Vehicle Summonses.


     Hofmann was Processed on The Charges and was Remanded to The Bergen County Jail pending Future Court Proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court.
