Former Westwood, New Jersey School Teacher Charged With Sex Crimes Involving A Student

WESTWOOD, NJ.- Today, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella reported, that following an investigation, a 55-Year-Old Rockaway Township, New Jersey man, who was previously employed by The Westwood Regional School District was Taken into Custody this morning and Charged with Inappropriate Sexual Conduct with a past Student.


     According to The Prosecutor's Office, on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit was contacted by The Hopatcong Police Department after they received a report regarding the Alleged Sexual Conduct between a Teach and a Student.


     The Bergen County Special Victims Unit launched an investigation into the allegations. After Detectives interviewed Witnesses including the Student, Detectives determined that Kurt Zimmermann, 55, of Rockaway Township, while previously Employed by The Westwood Regional School District as a Director of Bands, Engaged in Sexual Conduct with a Juvenile Student between the Ages of Thirteen and Seventeen on more than one occasion. The Sexual Conduct, which occurred in the past, and had taken place in Westwood Regional Middle School and at Westwood Regional High School in Washington Township. 


     Following the investigation, This Morning Mr. Zimmerman was Taken into Custody at The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office in Paramus, New Jersey, and Formally Charged with Three Counts of Aggravated Sexual Contact; and Second Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. 


     After being Processed on The Charges, Zimmermann was Remanded to The Bergen County Jail pending Future Court Proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court.
