FREEHOLD, NJ.- Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago reported, that a 29-Year-Old Howell Township, New Jersey man will Spend the next Four Years and Six Months in New Jersey State Prison for Stabbing his Pet Cat to Death with a Sharp Instrument.
On Thursday, February 1, 2024, during a Count Hearing in Monmouth County Superior Court, The Honorable Scott C. Arnette, J.S.C. Sentenced Christopher Sanchez, 29, of Howell Township, New Jersey, to a Term of Four and a Half Years in New Jersey State Prison.
An investigation into Mr. Sanchez's activities began on Friday, March 31, 2023, when Members of The Howell Township Police Department responded to a Township Residence on an unrelated matter and found the Body of a Dead Cat outside the Home.
A subsequent investigation by Members of The Howell Township Police Department and The Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Humane Law Enforcement Division determined that the Cat named Lilith had belonged to Mr. Sanchez, who Used a Sharp Instrument to Kill Lilith Two Days Earlier. Sanchez during the Killing recorded Videos and Photographs of the Act.
Mr. Sanchez was Taken into Custody on the same day that the Police responded. He has remained incarcerated at The Monmouth County Correctional Institution since, having Pleading Guilty in December 2023 to a Charge of Third Degree Animal Cruelty by Unnecessary or Cruelly Abusing a Living Animal, Resulting in its Death; and Simple Assault a Disorderly Persons Offense for Physically Attacking his Roommate after Killing the Cat.
During yesterday's Sentencing Hearing, Judge Arnett also ordered that Mr. Sanchez not have any contact with his Ex-Roommate, never to return to the scene of the crime, surrender all of his privately owned firearms, and engage in 30 Days of Community Service. Sanchez has also been banned from ever owning or living in a residence with any Pet or Animal, and was further ordered to pay $525.00 in Restitution, to cover the costs of the necropsy that disproved his initial claim to Police Officers that the Cat's Death was a Mercy Killing because Lilith had been Seriously Injured by being Struck by A Car.
