BREAKING: Newark, New Jersey Man Convicted For The Murder Of Girlfriend

NEWARK, NJ.- Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II reported that on Thursday, a Jury sitting in Essex County, New Jersey, Convicted a 49-Year-Old Newark, New Jersey man for The 2022 Strangulation and Stabbing Murder of his Longtime Girlfriend, Elizabeth Kelley.



     On Thursday, December 14, 2023, following a Three-Week Trial before Essex County Superior Court Judge Ronald D. Wigler, The Jury deliberated for less than an hour before Returning Guilty Verdicts against Nasean Torres, 49, of Newark, New Jersey on the Charges of Murder; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Sentencing in the matter has been Scheduled for February 9, 2023, at which time Mr. Torres will Face up to Life in New Jersey State Prison.


     The Conviction stems from an incident, when on July 22, 2022, Members of The Newark Police Department responded to 47 Palm Street in Newark, and found Elizabeth Kelley, 55, of Newark, New Jersey, Dead on The Basement Floor. A subsequent autopsy conducted by The Regional Medical Examiner's Office determined that Ms. Kelley's Cause of Death was Manuel Strangulation and Multiple Stab Wounds and The Manner was Homicide.


     An Investigation quickly identified Mr. Torres as a Suspect and The Individual responsible for Killing Ms. Kelley.


     "Elizabeth was a mother and grandmother and her family suffered a horrible loss when she was killed," said Assistant Jason Alterbaum, who tried the case with Brianna Sandroni, also an Assistant Prosecutor.


     "We hope Elizabeth's family can find some sort of comfort in knowing the individual who murdered their loved one has finally been brought to justice with this verdict," added Alterbaum.
