BREAKING: Atlantic City Man Pleads Guilty To Gun Charge

29-YEAR-OLD ATLANTIC CITY MAN WILL FACE FIVE YEARS IN STATE PRISON FOR ILLEGALLY POSSESSING A HANDGUN

     " Dashawn Stotts Pleads Guilty To A Charge Of Unlawful Possession Of A Handgun Without A Permit."

MAYS LANDING, NJ.- According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, on Thursday, November 16, 2023, Dashawn Stotts, 29, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, Pleaded Guilty in Atlantic County Superior Court to Unlawful Possession of a Handgun Without a Permit.



     The Guilty Plea stems from an incident when on December 11, 2022, Members of The Atlantic City Police Department discovered a Gray Ford Explorer that had been left running with nobody inside. Within a minute or two, Mr. Stotts approached Police Officers and told them he was the owner of the Explorer. A K-9 Officer conducted an Open-Air Sniff of the vehicle and subsequently made a Positive Hit on the vehicle for Narcotics. At that time, Police Officers searched the vehicle and found Heroin, Crack Cocaine, Cocaine, Oxycodone, and Marijuana. In addition to locating the Narcotics. In addition to finding the Narcotics, Police Officers found a Smith & Wesson Handgun, later which was discovered to be Stolen.


     Accordingly, Mr. Stotts was Arrested and Charged with Narcotics and Weapons Offenses, and Lodged in The Atlantic County Justice Facility. 


     As part of Thursday's Guilty Plea, the Narcotics Offenses were dismissed. Following entering his Plea, and over The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, Mr. Stotts was released pending Sentencing that has been Scheduled for January 5, 2024, at which time Mr. Stotts will be Sentenced to Five Years in New Jersey State Prison. The Sentence will be Subject to The Graves Act which will require Mr. Stotts to serve 42 Months of his Custodial Sentence before becoming eligible for Parole.
