16-YEAR-OLD AND 18-YEAR-OLD WILL REMAIN IN CUSTODY FOR THE FEBRUARY 2023 SHOOTING

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ.- Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone reported that Two New Brunswick Teens will remain detained to face Charges for Acts of Juvenile Delinquency for The Offences of Attempted Murder; Aggravated Assault; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Assault; and Conspiracy to Commit Attempted Murder.
According to Middlesex County Authorities, on February 25, 2023, at approximately 11:08 a.m., Members of The New Brunswick Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a Shooting had occurred in the area of Joyce Kilmer Avenue and Delavan Street in The City of New Brunswick.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a 19-Year-Old New Brunswick, New Jersey man suffering from a Gunshot Wound. The man was immediately transported to a nearby Hospital for treatment and was admitted in Critical Condition. A few days later the man was released and continues to recover.
A joint investigation by Detectives of The New Brunswick Police Department and The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office was able to determine and identify Two Teens, a 16-Year-Old Male and an 18-Year-Old Male, who was 17-Years-Old at the time of the Shooting were the Perpetrators. Because both of the Teens were under the Age of 18 at the time of The Shooting, they were both Charged as Juveniles. Warrants were issued for their Arrest on September 29, 2023, and both were Processed and Detained that same day.
At a preliminary hearing, a Middlesex County Family Court Judge determined that the Teens would be Detained pending the resolution of The Charges Filed Against them.
