THREE MEN HAVE BEEN CHARGED IN CONNECTION TO THE APRIL 8, 2023, PATERSON SHOOTING

PATERSON, NJ.- On Tuesday, April 18, 2023, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes reported that following an investigation into a Shooting that occurred on April 8, 2023, Three Paterson, New Jersey men have been Arrested and Charged with Multiple Weapons and Assault Offenses.
On Saturday, April 8, 2023, at approximately 7:33 a.m., Members of The Paterson Police Department responded to the area of Park Avenue and Carroll Street in Paterson, New Jersey on a report of an active Shooting. Upon arrival, Police Officers located a crime scene but were unable to locate a victim. A short time later, The Paterson Police Department was notified that Dhey Alcantara, 24, of Paterson had arrived a Saint Joseph's University Medical Center, seeking treatment for a Non-Life Threatening Gunshot Wound.
Based on the initial investigation, Detectives determined that Mr. Alcantara Fired a Handgun at Jesus Santana, 30, of Paterson, at which time Mr. Santana Fired back striking Mr. Alcantara. After being Struck Mr. Alcantara dropped his Handgun, at which time Mariano Romero, 31, of Paterson was later seen on surveillance footage picking up Mr. Alcantara,s Handgun and fleeing the scene.
Accordingly, Mr. Alcantara was admitted to Saint Joseph's University Medical Center for treatment for Gunshot Wounds and was identified and Arrested and Charged with First Degree Attempted Murder; Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
On April 12, 2023, just around 2:30 p.m. Mr. Santana was Arrested by Members of The New Jersey State Police Fugitive Task Force in Trenton, New Jersey, and Charged with Three Counts of Secon Degree Aggravated Assault; Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
On April 11, 2023, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Mr. Romero was by Members of The Paterson Police Department in the area of Park Avenue and Carroll Street in Paterson, New Jersey, and Charged with Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and Third Degree Hindering Apprehension.
