Two Charged In 2021 Homicide

TWO NEWARK NEW JERSEY MEN CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH 2021 JERSEY CITY FATAL SHOOTING

     " Khalil Kelley & Roger Pickett, Jr. Have Been Both Been Charged In The March 29, 2021 Fatal Shooting Of A Jersey City Teen."

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- On Monday, December 12, 2022, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced that Two Newark, New Jersey men have been Arrested and Charged in connection with the March 29, 2021, Shooting Death of 16-Year-Old Kaheem Taylor in Jersey City, New Jersey.


     Khalil Kelley, 23, has been Charged with First Degree Murder; First Degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and Second Degree Certain Persons not to Possess Weapons. Roger Pickett, Jr. has been Charged with First Degree Murder as an Accomplice; and First Degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder.


     Mr. Kelley was Arrested by Members of The U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, while at work at his place of employment in Hillside, New Jersey on Friday, December 9, 2022. Mr. Picketts, Jr. was Arrested at The Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny, New Jersey where he is being Detained on Charges with The November 1, 2022, Fatal Shooting of Jovahn Horne in Jersey City, New Jersey. Both men are currently being held in The Hudson County Correctional Facility pending a Detention Hearing.


     On Monday, March 29, 2021, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Members of The Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of 83 Bergen Avenue in Jersey City on a report of Shots Fired. Upon arrival, Police Officers found a Male Teen, later identified as Kaheem Taylor, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. Mr. Taylor was immediately transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased at 11:15 p.m.
