Paterson Man Sentenced To Prison

PATERSON MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR THE 2018 PARKING LOT SHOOTING DEATH OF A BYSTANDER

     " Ferreie Johnson Was Sentenced To State Prison On Thursday, December 8, 2022 For The Shooting Death Of Parker Sams Back In March of 2018."

PATERSON, NJ.- On Friday, December 9, 2022, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announced that Thursday, December 8, 2022, The Honorable Marybel Mercado-Ramirez, J.S.C. Sentenced Ferreie Johnson, 28, of Paterson, New Jersey to a Term of 20-Years in New Jersey State Prison for the Shooting Death of Parker Sams on March 31, 2018 in the Parking Lot of a Bar located at 60 Ellison Street in Paterson, New Jersey.


     The Sentenced will require Mr. Johnson to serve Eighty-Five Percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole, Pursuant to The No Early Release Act. Upon his release from prison Mr. Johnson will also be required to serve a Five Year Term of Parole Supervision.



     On March 31, 2018, Mr. Johnson became involved in a fight with another group of individuals at The D'Classico Lounge located on Ellison Street in Paterson. The fight continued into the Parking Lot, at which time Mr. Johnson went to his vehicle and retrieved a Gun and exchanged Gunfire with the other group of individuals. During the trial evidence presented, determined that Mr. Sams was an innocent bystander when he was struck and killed by a shot fired by Mr. Johnson.


     Mr. Johnson was originally Charged with First Degree Murder, however on October 13, 2022, a Jury sitting in Passaic County found Mr. Johnson Guilty of Second Degree Reckless Manslaughter; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office filed a motion for an extended term of imprisonment, which was Granted by Judge Mercado-Ramirez, who then imposed the 20-Year Sentence.
