Denville Man Sentenced To Prison

DENVILLE MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR THE STABBING DEATH OF HIS MOTHER IN MAY OR 2021

     " Anthony Citro Has Been Sentenced To New Jersey State Prison For Stabbing His Mother & Then Lighting The House On Fire To Conceal The Murder."

MORRISTOWN, NJ.- On Thursday, December 15, 2022, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll and Denville Police Chief Frank Perna announced that a 43-Year-Old Denville, New Jersey man has been Sentenced to 17-Years in New Jersey State Prison.


     On November 16, 2022, Anthony Citro, 43, formerly of Denville, New Jersey entered a Guilty Plea to First Degree Aggravated Manslaughter before The Honorable Stephen J. Taylor in Morris County State Superior Court. On Thursday, December 15, 2022, in accordance with the Terms of The Plea Agreement, Judge Taylor Sentenced Mr. Citro to a Term of 17-Years. The Sentence will be subject to The No Early Release Act which will require Mr. Citro to Serve Eighty-Five Percent of his Sentenced before Citro will become Eligible for Parole.



     The Guilty Plea and the Sentence stem from an incident that occurred on May 17, 2022, at approximately 7:24 a.m., Members of The Denville Police Department and The Denville Fire Department responded to a residence located at 37 Chestnut Hill Drive East in Denville on a report of a Structure Fire. Upon arrival, Police Officers found Mr. Citro outside of the residence with Blood on his Clothing.


     Smoke was observed coming from the residence. Members of The Denville Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire, and discovered the body of a 68-Year-Old woman, later identified as Eileen Citro, the mother of Mr. Citro.


     The ensuing investigation determined that the fire had been deliberately set and a subsequent autopsy further determined that The Cause of Ms. Citro's Death was Multiple Sharp Force Trauma, and The Manner of Death was Homicide.
