Man Arrested For Jersey City Murder

NEWARK MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO THE NOVEMBER 1 2022 MURDER IN JERSEY CITY

     " Roger Pickett, Jr. Has Been Charged With The Robbery Shooting Death Of Jovahn Horne."

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced, that on Thursday, November 17, 2022, Members of The U.S. Marshals Service of New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force Arrested a 22-Year-Old Newark, New Jersey man wanted in connection with the Fatal Shooting of Jovahn Horne during a Robbery in Jersey City, New Jersey.


     Roger Pickett, Jr., of Newark has been Charged with First Degree Murder; First Degree Murder During a Commission of a Robbery; First Degree Inflicting Bodily Injury while Committing a Robbery; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.


     Mr. Pickett was Arrested at his residence on Evergreen Avenue in Newark, New Jersey. He was transported to The Hudson County Correctional Facility, pending his First Appearance and potential Detention Hearing in Hudson County State Superior Court. 


     The investigation began on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at approximately 9:05 p.m., when Members of The Jersey City Police Department responded to a report for Shots Fired on Dales Avenue in Jersey City. Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man, later identified as Jovahn Horne, 23, of Tenafly, New Jersey, in the area of 74 Dales Avenue, who had sustained a serious Gunshot Wound to his Abdomen.


     Mr. Horne was immediately transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he succumbed to his injury and was  subsequently pronounced deceased at 9:41 p.m.


     A swift moving investigation conducted by Members of The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit and The Jersey City Police Department were able to identify Mr. Picketts as the suspect who robbed and fatally shot Mr. Horne. 


" The Rules Of The Court Require Us To Include A Statement, That States: The Charges Outlined In This Publication Are Merely Accusations And The Defendant And Or Defendants Are Presumed Innocent Unless And Until Proven Guilty Beyond Reasonable Doubt."
