Firefighter Charged With Arson

WANAQUE BOROUGH FIREFIGHTER CHARGE FOR STARTING A HALLOWEEN BRUSH FIRE

     " Shannon Muller Charged With Third Degree Arson In Connection With Starting A Brush Fire In The Woods Behind The Warrens Way Development."

WANAQUE, NJ.- On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Wanaque Police Chief Robert Kronyak announce following an investigation by Members of The Wanaque Police Department, Shannon B. Muller, 40, of Wanaque, New Jersey has been Arrested and Charged with starting a Fire on Monday, October 31, 2022 in a wooded area behind The Warrens Way Housing Complex.



     Mr. Muller has been Charged with One Count of Third Degree Arson. Muller was processed on the Charge and remanded to The Passaic County Jail. On Tuesday, November 1, 2022, Mr. Muller appeared before The Honorable Vincenzo Stampone and was released on Pretrial Conditions. Muller was scheduled to appear in Passaic County State Superior Court on November 29, 2022.


     On Monday, October 31, 2022, at approximately 8:58 a.m., a Member of The Wanaque Police Department observed Mr. Muller lighting a piece of paper with a match and placing the burning paper in the brush behind the Warrens Way Housing Complex in Wanaque, New Jersey, causing the brush to ignite and start to spread. 


     Mr. Muller fled the scene as the fire continued to burn but was apprehended before he was able to leave the woods. Based on the observation by the Police Officer, Muller was taken into custody and subsequently Charged.


     The investigation further revealed that Mr. Muller was identified as a Volunteer Firefighter with The Wanaque Volunteer Fire Department.
