Plainfield New Jersey Man Charged

20 YEAR OLD PLAINFIELD MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER FOR THE SHOOTING DEATH OF A SOMERSET MAN

     " Michael Cruz, 20, Of Plainfield Has Been Taken Into Custody For The September 17, 2022 Shooting Death Of  David Michael Buck Of Somerset, New Jersey."

PLAINFIELD, NJ.- On Thursday, October 6, 2022, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel announced that a Plainfield, New Jersey man was Arrested Monday, October 3, 2022 in connection to a Shooting Death of a Somerset man that took place on September 17, 2022.


     Michael Cruz, 20, of Plainfield has been charged with First Degree Murder; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. The Charges are in connection with the Fatal Shooting of David Michael Buck of Somerset, New Jersey.


     On Monday, September 17, 2022 at approximately 6:38 p.m., Members of The Plainfield Police Department responded to the area of The 700 Block of Kensington Avenue in The City on reports of Gunshots. Upon arrival, Police Officers located a male victim, later identified as David Michael Buck of Somerset, New Jersey who was suffering from gunshot wounds. Mr. Buck was immediately transported to an area hospital where he succumbed ti his injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased.


     On Monday, October 3, 2022, at approximately 5:30pm, Michael Cruz was taken into Custody by Members of The US Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Philadelphia. Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force Sergeant Scuorzo and Detective Kirsh, along with Philadelphia Police Department’s Homicide Unit, Union County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Unit, and the Union County Police Department Ballistics Team, to execute this Arrest. Mr. Cruz was transported to The Philadelphia Police Department where he is awaiting Extradition proceedings to return him to New Jersey.
