19 YEAR OLD CHARGED IN CONNECTION TO THE OCTOBER 9, 2022 FATAL STABBING IN PASSAIC

PASSAIC, NJ.- On Tuesday, October 11, 2022, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Passaic Police Chief Luis A. Guzman announced at the conclusion of an investigation conducted by Members of The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office in conjunction with Detectives from The Passaic Police Department, John E. Martinez, 19, of Passaic, New Jersey has been Arrested and Charged in Connection to the early Sunday morning Fatal Stabbing in the area of Kreuger Place and Popular Street.
Mr. Martinez has been Charged with First Degree Murder; Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Fourth Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
On Sunday, October 9, 2022, at approximately 1:18 a.m., Members of The Passaic Police Department responded to the area of Kreuger Place and Popular Street in Passaic on a report of a Stabbing.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a 16-Year-Old Boy and a 17-Year-Old Boy, both from Passaic that had been Stabbed during a fight. The 16-Year-Old was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 17-Year-Old was immediately transported to Saint Joseph's University Medical Center for treatment.
The subsequent investigation determined that Mr. Martinez was the assailant and the individual responsible for the Stabbing Death of the 16-Year-Old. Mr. Martinez was taken into Custody on Monday, October 10, 2022, in the area of Grove Street and Broadway in Passaic.
Mr. Martinez is currently lodged in The Passaic County Jail. The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office will file a Pretrial Detention Motion to have Mr. Martinez detained pending the resolution of the Charges against him.
