JERSEY CITY MAN ARRESTED IN PENNSYLVANIA ON CHARGES FOR THE STABBING DEATH OF A MAN

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- On Monday, October 3, 2022, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced that On Saturday, October 1, 2022, a Jersey City man was Arrested by Members of the Allentown Police Department as a Fugitive from Justice for his involvement in the May 29, 2022 Death of Jawon Purcell in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Sean Williams, 33, of Jersey City has been Charged with First Degree Murder; Fourth Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Mr. Williams was Arrested without incident at approximately 3:30 p.m. on West Emmaus Avenue in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Williams will be held in Pennsylvania on Additional Charges pending an extradition hearing to New Jersey.
On May 29, 2022, at approximately 1:53 p.m., Members of The Jersey City Police Department responded to a report of a fight on Bostwick Avenue in The City.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found an unresponsive man, later identified as Jawon Purcell, 28, of Jersey City, New Jersey suffering from multiple Stab Wounds in the area of 112 Bostwick Avenue. Mr. Purcell, succumbed to his injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene at approximately 2:03 p.m. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be Sharp Force Wounds and the Manner of Death to be that Homicide.
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez credited The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and The Jersey City Police Department for the investigation and The United States Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force and The Allentown Police Department for the Arrest.
