PATERSON, NJ.- On Thursday, July 21, 2022, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora, and
Haledon Police Chief Angelo J. Daniele announced that based upon an investigation by The
Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Juan
Pereyra, 32, Paterson, New Jersey, has been Arrested in connection to a Shooting
investigation that took place July 2, 2022, in the area of Prospect Street and Market Street in
Paterson, New Jersey.
Juan Pereyra has been Charged with First Degree Attempted Murder; Second Degree Unlawful
Possession of a Handgun; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Second Degree Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons. Mr. Pereyra has also been Charged with Simple Assault, a Disorderly Persons Offense.
On July 2, 2022, Members of The Paterson Police Department responded to the area of Prospect
Street and Market Street in Paterson, New Jersey on a report of Shots Fired.
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a crime scene, but no victim was located. Members of the Paterson Police
Department were later notified that a 36-Year-Old Haskell, New Jersey man had arrived
at Saint Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center in Wayne, New Jersey, by way of private vehicle seeking
treatment for a non-life threatening Gunshot Wound. The man was transferred to Saint
Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey.
Based on the ensuing investigation, Juan Pereyra was identified as the Shooter and a Warrant was issued
for his Arrest. On Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at approximately 7:35 p.m., Members of The Haledon Police
Department Arrested Mr. Pereyra in the area of Belmont Avenue and Tilt Street in Haledon, New
Jersey.
The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has filed a motion for Pretrial Detention that will be heard by the Honorable Joseph A.
Portelli, J.S.C. on Tuesday, July 26, 2022.
