TRENTON NEW JERSEY MAN CHARGED IN CONNECTION TO A FEBRUARY 2022 FATAL STABBING

TRENTON, NJ.- On Friday, March 11, 2022 Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri announced a Trenton, New Jersey man has been Arrested and Charged for a February 2022 Fatal Stabbing that occurred on Whittaker Avenue in Trenton.
Luis Bonilla, 20, has been Charged with First Degree Murder; Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Fourth Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Mr. Bonilla was taken into custody in Trenton, New Jersey on March 8, 2022. The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion to detain Mr. Bonilla Pending Trial.
The Charges stem from an investigation conducted by Members of The Mercer County Homicide Task Force in conjunction with The Trenton Police Department.
On February 23, 2022, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Members of The Trenton police responded to the 500 block of Whittaker Avenue on a report of a man being Stabbed. The victim, later identified as Leonardo Fernandez, 32, of Trenton, New Jersey was located at the scene, suffering from Multiple Stab Wounds to his Chest. Mr. Fernandez was immediately transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
