Seventh Arrest Made In Paterson Homicide

SEVENTH ARREST MADE IN THE MAY 1, 2021 TARGETED HOMICIDE IN THE AREA OF TOTOWA AND REDWOOD AVENUES IN PATERSON NEW JERSEY

     " Mick Cadet Of Paterson Charged With First Degree Murder, Conspiracy, & Weapons Offenses In Connection With The May 1st Fatal Shooting Of Jose Figueroa Of Newark, New Jersey."

PATERSON, NJ.- On Thursday, February 3, 2022 Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announced that based upon a continuing investigation by The Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Mick Cadet, 20, of Paterson, New Jersey was Arrested and Charged on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 in connection to The Homicide which occurred on May 1, 2021 in the area of Totowa and Redwood Avenues in the City of Paterson. 



     Mr. Cadet has been Charged with First Degree Murder; First Degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder; Second Degree Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose; and Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun.


     On Saturday, May 1, 2021, at approximately 6:57 p.m., Members of The Paterson Police Department responded to the intersection of Totowa Avenue and Redwood Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey on a report of a Shooting. Upon arrival, Police Officers discovered Jose Figueroa, 21, of Newark, New Jersey lying in the street with apparent gunshot wounds. Mr. Figueroa was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center where Mr. Figueroa succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. 


     The ensuing investigation determined that the Shooting was a Coordinated Attack involving Multiple Shooters in Multiple Locations, and that Mr. Cadet was involved in the Planning and Execution of the Shooting. 


     The following Six Individuals were previously Arrested and also charged in connection with Mr. Figueroa’s homicide: On June 1, 2021 Chelsee Ramirez, 19, of Paterson, and a 17-Year-Old Juvenile Male, of Paterson were Arrested; on September 10, 2021 Ismael Leon, 19, of Paterson, and another 17-Year Old Juvenile Male from Clifton were Arrested; on September 13, 2021 Jenna N. Peselli, 24, of Newton, New Jersey, was Arrested; and on September 28, 2021 Jaquan A. Thomas, 31, of Paterson was Arrested and Charged in connection with the May 1, 20221 Murder of Mr. Figueroa.


     Mr. Cadet was Arrested on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, by Members of The Passaic County Sheriff’s Office, in Paterson, New Jersey. In the process of The Arrest, Mr. Cadet attempted to Evade Apprehension and Resisted Arrest. Following his Arrest, Mr. Cadet was also Charged with Third Degree Resisting Arrest by Force; Fourth Degree Resisting Arrest by Flight; and Third Degree Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer.


     Mr. Cadet is currently in custody at The Passaic County Jail. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for the pre-trial Detention of Mr. Cadet, which will be heard by a Passaic County Superior Court Judge within the next few days.


     If convicted Mr. Cadet is subject to the Sentencing Exposure for the Crime of Murder of a Minimum of Thirty Years up to Life Imprisonment; Conspiracy to Commit Murder it is Ten to Twenty Years in Prison; and for the Crimes of Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, both have a Sentencing Range of Five to Ten Years in Prison with Forty Two Months to be served before Parole Eligibility. The Crimes of both Third Degree Resisting Arrest by Force and Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, both have a Sentencing Range of Three to Five Years in Prison, and for the Crime of Fourth Degree Resisting Arrest by Flight, fourth degree it is of up to Eighteen Months in Prison.


     The investigation remains active and ongoing. More information may become available once released by authorities.
