Arrests Made In Paterson Homicide

TWO PATERSON TEENS ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO THE FEBRUARY 1, 2022 HOMICIDE AT 495 EAST 19th STREET

     " Jae'Wuan Abrams, 18, & A 17-Year-Old Both Of Paterson, New Jersey Have Been Arrested & Charged In The Shooting Death Of 43-Year-Old Juan Soto Of Paterson, New Jersey."

PATERSON, NJ.- On Thursday, February 10, 2022 Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announced that based on an investigation by The Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Jae’Wuan Abrams, 18, Paterson, New Jersey and a 17-Year Old Juvenile, also from Paterson, New Jersey were Arrested on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 in connection to the homicide that took place on February 1, 2022 at 495 East 19th Street in Paterson, New Jersey. 



     Both Teens have been Charged with First Degree Murder; Second Degree Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose; and Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun.


     On Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at approximately 6:02 p.m., Members of The Paterson Police Department responded to the area of 495 East 19th Street in Paterson, New Jersey on a report of a Shooting. 


     Upon arrival, Police Officers discovered a victim, later identified as Juan Soto, 43, of Paterson, New Jersey lying on the street in front 495 East 19th Street with apparent Gunshot Wounds. Mr. Soto was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.


     The ensuing investigation determined that Mr. Abrams and the Juvenile were the individuals responsible for the Murder of Mr. Soto. Mr. Abrams was Arrested at his residence in Paterson, New Jersey at approximately 1:30 p.m. without incident. The Juvenile was also Arrested at his residence in Paterson, New Jersey without incident at approximately 3:10 p.m.


     Mr. Abrams is currently in custody at The Passaic County Jail and the Juvenile is in custody at the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center in Newark, New Jersey. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has Filed Motions for The Pre-Trial Detention for both Teens which will be heard by a Superior Court Judge at a date and time to be determined by the Court.


     If Convicted, both Teens may face the potential Prison Term for Murder from a Minimum of Thirty Years up to Life Imprisonment; For the Crimes of Second Degree Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, and Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, each carries a Sentencing Range of Five to Ten Years in Prison.
