WESTAMPTON NEW JERSEY MAN INDICTED ON CHARGES OF ATTACKING ELDERLY NEIGHBORS AND STEALING THEIR CAR

MOUNT HOLLY, NJ.- On Wednesday, January 12, 2022 Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced that a Grand Jury sitting in Burlington County, New Jersey has returned an Indictment against a 44-Year-Old Westampton Township, New Jersey man for Breaking into the home of his Elderly next-door Neighbors last summer, Attacking them in their bedroom and then driving off in their vehicle.
The Grand Jury returned The Indictment on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, Charging Rhys R. Lershe with First Degree Attempted Murder; First Degree Robbery; Two Counts of Second Degree Aggravated Assault; Second Degree Burglary; Third Degree Terroristic Threats; Third Degree Burglary; Third Degree Theft by Unlawful Taking; and Third Degree Endangering Another Person.
The investigation began on August 4, 2021, at approximately 12:30 a.m., when Members of The Westampton Township Police Department responded to a Westampton residence on a report of a couple being Attacked and Robbed, inside their home.
The ensuing investigation determined that Mr. Lershe entered their residence through a second-story bedroom window and demanded the keys to their 2014 Black Kia Optima. Mr. Lershe then Assaulted the couple before leaving in the car. The victims were transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden and admitted for treatment.
Mr. Lershe was Arrested the following day by Members of The Millville Police Department at a residence in Cumberland County, New Jersey. He was still in possession of the Stolen Kia when Apprehended. Since the day of his Arrest, Mr. Lershe has remained Detained in The Burlington County Jail.
The incident was investigated by The Westampton Township Police Department and The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, with assistance from The Moorestown Township Police Department, Mount Laurel Police Department and The Willingboro Police Department.
