Pleasantville Man Pleads Guilty

PLEASANTVILLE NEW JERSEY MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO AGGRAVATED MANSLAUGHTER IN CONNECTION TO THE APRIL 2018 BEATING DEATH OF A WOMAN

     " Mark Huff Of Pleasantville Has Pled Guilty To Aggravated Manslaughter For The April 14, 2018 Killing Of Vernell K. Vance In Atlantic City, New Jersey."

MAYS LANDING, NJ.- On Friday, January 7, 2022 Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill announced that a Pleasantville, New Jersey man has Pled Guilty to Aggravated Manslaughter in connection to Killing a woman in Atlantic City, New Jersey in April, 2018.



     On Thursday, January 6, 2022, Mark Huff, 58, Pleaded Guilty to One Count of First Degree Aggravated Manslaughter for the Homicide of Vernell K. Vance. At the time of Sentencing The State will recommend that Mr. Huff be Sentenced to a Term of Twenty Five Years in New Jersey State Prison. The Sentence will be subject to The No Early Release Act, which will require Mr. Huff to serve Eighty Five Percent of his Sentence before Parole Eligibility.


     On Saturday, April 14, 2018, at approximately 11:28 p.m., Members of The Atlantic City Police Department responded to 21 South Tennessee Avenue in Atlantic City on a report that a Body had been discovered. Upon arrival, Police Officers located the deceased body of Ms. Vance, who had sustained Significant Blunt Force Trauma to her Head.


     An Autopsy performed by The Southern Regional Medical Examiner, Doctor Ian Hood determined that the Cause of Death to Ms. Hood was Blunt Force Trauma to the Head and the Manner of Death to be that of Homicide. 


     A Swift moving investigation by Detectives from The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office in conjunction with Detectives from The Atlantic City Police Department were able to Identify Mr. Huff as the individual responsible for causing the Death of Ms. Vance.


     On Monday, April 16, 2018, Mr. Huff was Arrested in Pleasantville and taken into custody by Detectives from The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit and Detectives from The Atlantic City Police Department with the assistance from Members of The Pleasantville Police Department. New Jersey Transit Police were instrumental in Identifying Mr. Huff.


     Mr. Huff has been Lodged in The Atlantic County Justice Facility since the date of his Arrest. Sentencing has been scheduled for February 10, 2022, before The Honorable Judge Ridgway in Atlantic County Superior Court.
