Pemberton Woman Charged

AFTER LEAVING A BAR AND DRIVING DRUNK A PEMBERTON NEW JERSEY WOMAN CHARGED IN A CRASH THAT KILLED A SEVENTEEN YEAR OLD

     " Wanda Sprague, Charged With First Degree Reckless Manslaughter In Connection With The Head On Crash That Claimed The Life Of Kayla Bowen."

PEMBERTON, TOWNSHIP, NJ.- On Thursday, January 20, 2022 Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Pemberton Township Police Chief Jason Watters announced that a 54-Year-Old Pemberton Township woman has been Charged with Driving While Impaired and causing the Death of a Teenage Motorist late last year during a head-on collision that occurred after the woman left a Browns Mills Bar.



     Wanda Sprague of Pemberton Township, New Jersey, was Charged with First Degree Reckless Manslaughter; and Second Degree Vehicular Homicide. During Ms. Sprague's first appearance in Superior Court on Thursday, The Honorable Terrence R. Cook, P.J.Cr., ordered her not to have any contact with the victim’s family. The case will now be prepared for presentation to a grand jury for possible indictment.


     On December 16, 2021, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Members of The Pemberton Township Police Department responded to the area of Lakehurst Road and Rancocas Lane on a report of a Motor Vehicle Accident.


     The ensuing investigation determined that the headlights on Ms. Sprague’s Chrysler 300 were not turned on when she crashed head on into a Nissan Sentra being driven by Kayla Bowen, 17, of Pemberton Township, New Jersey. Ms. Bowen succumbed to the injuries she sustained and was pronounced deceased at the scene.


     The investigation further revealed that Ms. Sprague had been Consuming Alcohol prior to the crash at a nearby bar, and reached a speed exceeding 90 mph prior to the collision. Sprague suffered extensive injuries from which she is still recovering.


     In addition to the Criminal Charges, Ms. Sprague was issued multiple Motor Vehicle Summonses including Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs.
