Newark Man Sentenced To Prison

NEWARK NEW JERSEY MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR ELUDING POLICE IN A STOLEN VEHICLE

     " Morris County Superior Court Judge Sentences Isaac Zackery-Barnes Of Newark To Nine Years In New Jersey State Prison."

MORRISTOWN, NJ.- On Friday, January 21, 2022 Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Christoph Kimker, Morris County Sheriff James Gannon, Hanover Township Police Chief Michael Loock, and Parsippany-Troy Hills Acting Police Chief Richard Pantina announced the Sentencing of Isaac Zackery-Barnes, 24, of Newark, New Jersey.


     On September 22, 2020, a Member of The Hanover Township Police Department initiated a pursuit of Mr. Zackery-Barnes, after Mr. Zackery-Barnes ignored the Police Officer’s commands to pull over, during the pursuit it discovered the vehicle to be a stolen from Nutley, New Jersey. 


     Mr. Zackery-Barnes while fleeing placed other motorists in danger, as he  swerved between lanes of traffic. At times he traveled on the wrong side of the roadway, ran a red light, left the roadway, hit a curb, all before continuing onto an entrance ramp to Route 287, where two tires were subsequently blown out as a result of his dangerous conduct. The pursuit was ultimately terminated in Parsippany-Troy Hills, Mr. Zackery-Barnes was Arrested following a short investigation.


     Following Mr. Zackery-Barnes' Arrest, Members of The Hanover Township Police Department contacted Members of The Morris County Auto Theft Task Force to assist with the investigation, and to coordinate with agencies from neighboring counties as this investigation involved a stolen motor vehicle.


     On November 17, 2021, The Honorable Stephen J. Taylor, J.S.C., accepted Mr. Zackery-Barnes’ Guilty Plea to Second Degree Eluding; and Third Degree Receiving Stolen Property, for operating the stolen vehicle during the police pursuit. 


     On Thursday, January 20, 2022 Mr. Zackery-Barnes was Sentenced  to Nine Years in New Jersey State Prison on the Eluding Charge and Four Years concurrent in Prison on the Receiving Stolen Property Charge. Mr. Zackery-Barnes also agreed to pay restitution to the victim.
