Charges Upgraded To Murder

UPDATE : ORANGE NEW JERSEY MAN NOW CHARGED WITH MURDER IN BEATING DEATH OF HIS GIRLFRIEND'S FOUR YEAR OLD DAUGHTER

     " After Medical Examiner Determines The Cause Of Death To Be Blunt Force Trauma, Jamel Welch Of Orange Charged With First Degree Murder In The Death Of Laniyah Bloodworth."

ORANGE, NJ.- On Saturday, January 8, 2022 Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens and Orange Police Director Todd Warren announced that on Friday, January 7, 2022 Jamel Welch, 21, has now been Charged with Murder in the Death of Four Year Old Laniyah Bloodworth of Orange, New Jersey.



     The Charges were upgraded on Friday after The Essex County Prosecutor's Office received the Autopsy Results from The Regional Medical Examiner. The Medical Examiner determined that the Cause of Death to be Blunt Force Trauma and the Manner to be that of Homicide.


     On Thursday, December 30, 2021, Members of The Orange Police Department and Orange Emergency Medical Personnel responded to a residence on The 200 Block of Wallace Street in Orange on a report of a Unresponsive Child. Upon arrival, Emergency Medical Personnel found an Unconscious Laniyah Bloodworth inside the residence.


     Laniyah was immediately transported to University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey where she succumbed to her injury and was pronounced deceased at 4:25 p.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2021.


     Initially, Mr. Welch, the boyfriend of the Child's mother who was babysitting was Charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child after Unexplained Bruising on Laniyahs body. Mr. Welch now stands Charged with First Degree Murder. Mr. Welch remains lodged in The Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, New Jersey.
