Arrest Made In Paterson Homicide

ARREST MADE IN CONNECTION TO THE SUNDAY MORNING, JANUARY 9, 2022 HOMICIDE AT 288 12th AVENUE IN PATERSON NEW JERSEY

     " Raymond Menafield Of Paterson, Has Been Charged With Murder After Hitting His Roomate With A Rock."

PATERSON, NJ.- On Tuesday, January 11, 2022 Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announced that on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at approximately 6:20 a.m., Members of The Paterson Police Department responded to 288 12th Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey on a report of an injured person. 



     Upon arrival, Police Officers located a Male Victim, 39-Year-Old M.B. of Paterson, New Jersey unresponsive and lying face down on the living room floor of the first-floor apartment with a Large Laceration to the Back of his Head. Paterson Police Officers immediately contacted medical personnel for assistance. The victim had succumbed to his injury, and was subsequently pronounced deceased on the scene at approximately 06:40 a.m., on Sunday.


     The subsequent investigation determined that the victim’s roommate, Raymond Menafield, 40, of Paterson, engaged the victim in a dispute and then Struck the Victim in the Head with a Rock which led to his Death. 


     On Monday, January 10, 2022, Mr. Menafield was Arrested and taken into custody at approximately 4:10 p.m., without incident. Mr. Menafield is currently Charged with First Degree Murder; Third Degree Possession of a Weapon (Rock) for an Unlawful Purpose; and Fourth Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Rock).


     If convicted, Mr. Menafield will face a potential Sentence on First Degree Murder of Thirty Years to Life in New Jersey State Prison; on Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose it is Three to Five Years in New Jersey State Prison; and on Fourth Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon it is up to Eighteen Months in New Jersey State Prison.


     The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has filed a Pretrial Detention Motion for Mr. Menafield to be Detained pending Trial which will be heard in State Superior Court.
