PATERSON, NJ.- On Monday, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announced that based upon an investigation by The Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Roshane Latty, 22, of Paterson, New Jersey was Arrested on December 22, 2021, in connection to a Homicide that took place on January 31, 2021, in the area of 315 Park Avenue in the City of Paterson.
A Grand Jury sitting Passaic County, New Jersey previously returned an Indictment against Mr. Latty for The Crimes of First Degree Murder; Third Degree Possession of a Knife for an Unlawful Purpose; and Fourth Degree Unlawful Possession of a Knife.
On Sunday, January 31, 2021, at approximately 12:26 a.m., Members of The Paterson Police Department responded to the area of 315 Park Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey on a report of a Stabbing. Upon arrival, Police Officers located Luis Ramirez, 26, of Paterson, Lying in the Street next to a parked vehicle with apparent Stab Wounds. Mr. Ramirez was unresponsive, and had succumbed to his injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased on scene.
An ensuing investigation determined that Mr. Latty was responsible for the Murder of Mr. Ramirez. Mr. Latty was Charged with Murder and the Weapons Offenses while he remained a Fugitive.
On December 22, 2021, at approximately 8:08 p.m., Mr. Latty was Arrested and taken into custody without incident in the area of Donigan Park in Providence, Rhode Island by The Providence Police Department. Following his Arrest, Mr. Latty waived his right to a hearing and was Extradited to New Jersey on Wednesday January 5, 2022, and is currently back in New Jersey and has been lodged in The Passaic County Jail.
If convicted, Mr. Latty will face the Sentencing Exposure for First Degree Murder is Thirty Years up to Life in New Jersey State; for Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose it is Three to Five Years in New Jersey State Prison; and for Fourth Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon it is up to Eighteen Months in New Jersey State Prison.
The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has filed a motion for Pretrial Detention that will be heard by a Superior Court Judge in State Superior Court.
