PASSAIC NEW JERSEY MAN AND 17 YEAR OLD ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH THE NOVEMBER 21, 2021 SHOOTING INVESTIGATION

PASSAIC, NJ.- On Sunday, December 19, 2021 Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Passaic Police Chief Luis A. Guzman announced that based upon an investigation by The Passaic Police Department, Ernest Fuentes, 19- Year-Old of Passaic, New Jersey, and a 17-Year Old Juvenile were charged in connection with a Shooting Investigation that took place November 21, 2021, in the area of Lafayette Avenue and Howe Avenue in Passaic, New Jersey.
Ernest Fuentes has been Charged with Five Counts of First Degree Attempted Murder; Five Counts of Second Degree Aggravated Assault; Five Counts of Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; Third Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; and First Degree Employing a Juvenile in the Commission of a Crime.
The Juvenile has been Charged with Five Counts of First Degree Attempted Murder; Five Counts of Second Degree Aggravated Assault; Five Counts of Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and Fourth Degree Possession of a Firearm by a Minor.
On Sunday, November 21, 2021, at approximately 12:55 a.m., Members of The Passaic Police Department responded to the area of Lafayette Avenue and Howe Avenue in Passaic, New Jersey on a report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a potential crime scene a 4-Year-Old Child, a 21- Year-Old Passaic, New Jersey woman, a 25-Year-Old Newark, New Jersey woman and a 29-Year-Old Newark, New Jersey man who each sustained non-life threatening gunshot wounds. The victims were immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey for treatment. Police located a fifth victim, a 21-Year-Old Passaic man, who had sustained a graze wound during the shooting and refused medical treatment.
Police determined that a group gathered for an event in a tent in the backyard of a residence located at Lafayette Avenue and Howe Avenue when two gunmen opened fire, striking the victims. Based on the investigation, Ernest Fuentes and the 17-Year-Old Juvenile were identified as the shooters and arrest warrants were issued.
On November 23, 2021, at approximately 2:12 p.m., Members of The Passaic Police Department Arrested the 17-Year-Old Juvenile in the area of Jefferson Street and Hoover Avenue in Passaic, New Jersey. The juvenile was remanded pending further proceedings in the Family Court.
On Saturday, December 18, 2021, at approximately 6:49 p.m., m-Members of The Passaic Police Department located Ernest Fuentes seated in the front passenger seat of a motor vehicle in the area of Liberty Street and Oak Street in Passaic, New Jersey. Mr. Fuentes was Arrested after a brief motor vehicle pursuit and foot chase. Following his Arrest, Ernest Fuentes was additionally Charged with Fourth Degree Resisting Arrest.
Mr. Fuentes was processed on the Charges and remanded to The Passaic County Jail. The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has filed a Pretrial Detention Motion for Mr. Fuentes, which will be heard in Passaic County Superior Court.
