Passaic Man Convicted

PASSAIC NEW JERSEY MAN CONVICTED ON CHARGES FOR THE AGGRAVATED SEXUAL ASSAULT OF A 14-YEAR-OLD CHILD

     " Gabriel Sunuc Was Found Guilty For The Multiple Sexual Assaults Of A 14-Year-Old Child In Passaic, New Jersey Occurring Between March 2015 & August 2018."

PATERSON, NJ.- On Wednesday, November 10, 2021 Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announced that Gabriel Sunuc, 30, of Passaic, New Jersey was found guilty after a jury trial before the Honorable Marybel Ramirez, J.S.C., of Three Counts of First Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault;  Three Counts of Second Degree Sexual Assault; and Three Counts of Second Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. 



     On August 27, 2018, Members of The Passaic Police Department responded to a residence in the City of Passaic after receiving a 911 Emergency Call from a Fourteen-Year-Old Child who reported being Sexually Abused. 


     Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Detectives interviewed multiple witnesses, including the child victim. The child reported being sexually abused by Mr. Sunuc on multiple occasions between March 2015 and August 2018 at various residences in Passaic, New Jersey.


     On Tuesday, November 9, 2021, a Passaic County Jury Convicted Mr. Sunuc on all Counts of Passaic County Indictment Number 20-02-0149-I. Sentencing is scheduled for February 17, 2022, at 9:00 AM, before Judge Ramirez.


     The sentencing exposure on First Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault where the victim is under the Age of Thirteen, is Twenty Five Years to Life in New Jersey State Prison, subject to a Twenty-Five-Year Parole Disqualifier pursuant to The Jessica Lunsford Act; on First Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, it is Ten to Twenty Years in New Jersey State Prison, with 85% term of service before parole eligibility pursuant to The No Early Release Act; on Second Degree Sexual Assault, it is Five to Ten Years in New Jersey State Prison with 85% term of service before parole eligibility pursuant to The No Early Release Act; on Second Degree Sexual Assault, it is Five to Ten Years in New Jersey State Prison; and, on Second Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, it is Five to Ten Years in New Jersey State Prison.


     Mr. Sunuc is subject to The Special Sentence of Parole Supervision for Life and Megan’s Law Registration Requirements. Mr. Sunuc is presently detained at The Passaic County Jail.


     Passaic County Assistant Prosecutor Alyssa DiSturco represented the State during the jury trial before Judge Ramirez and Mr. Sunuc was represented by Ian Liberty, Esq.
