AN ELECTION DAY FATAL SHOOTING IN ASBURY PARK NEW JERSEY HAS BEEN RULED HOMICIDE

FREEHOLD, NJ.- On Tuesday, November 9, 2021 Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor announced that a Fatal Shooting that occurred last Tuesday night in Asbury Park, New Jersey has been ruled as a Homicide.
The victim in the Shooting has been Identified as 24-Year-Old Dymir Leonard of Asbury Park, New Jersey.
On Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at approximately 9:45 p.m., an Off-Duty Asbury Park Police Lieutenant driving his personal vehicle was stopped at the Intersection of Memorial Drive and Bangs Avenue when he was approached by Mr. Leonard, who stated that he had been shot.
Additional Members of The Asbury Park Police Department responded to the Intersection, and Mr. Leonard was immediately transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injury and was subsequently pronounced deceased at 4:15 a.m., on Wednesday, November 3, 2021.
A subsequent autopsy performed by The Regional Medical Examiner's Office determined the Cause of Death to be a Gunshot Wound to the Chest, and the Manner to be that of Homicide.
A joint investigation by Members of The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Bureau and The Asbury Park Police Department remains active and ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the Fatal Shooting.
